The Underground Conservative

NY Times endorsement=kiss of death

John McCain gets endorsed by the New York Times today (for the primary, mind you). As if he didn’t already have enough problems with conservatives…

Below is some of what the NY Times said about McCain, with our comments in italics. Oh, BTW, a big “Thank You” to Michelle Malkin for noting this story on her blog (which is how I learned about it–I’d not have visited the NY Times site otherwise). As she says, “The negative ad writes itself…”

We have strong disagreements with all the Republicans running for president.

Really??? I never would’ve guessed!

Still, there is a choice to be made, and it is an easy one.

Yeah, “easy” if you’re a lib!

Senator John McCain of Arizona is the only Republican who promises to end the George Bush style of governing from and on behalf of a small, angry fringe.

You mean that “small, angry fringe” that RE-ELECTED President Bush in 2004 by a majority (something Bill Clinton NEVER achieved) with the MOST POPULAR VOTES EVER?

He… risked his presidential bid to uphold fundamental American values in the immigration debate.

“He… risked his presidential bid to uphold fundamental anti-American values in the immigration debate.” There, I fixed that sentence for you.

Mitt Romney’s shape-shifting rivals that of Mr. Giuliani. It is hard to find an issue on which he has not repositioned himself to the right since he was governor of Massachusetts. It is impossible to figure out where he stands or where he would lead the country.

“Shape-shifting?” “Repositioned?” “Impossible to figure out where he stands?” That didn’t stop you from endorsing Hillary Clinton, now, did it?

We wish he could now see as clearly past the temporary victories produced by Mr. Bush’s unsustainable escalation…

Way to root for your own country to win!

…which have not led to any change in Iraq’s murderous political calculus.

Lessee… fewer American deaths in Iraq… fewer Iraqi deaths… that’s “murderous calculus?” Looks like you guys need to take a refresher course in calculus, as the only thing that hasn’t changed is your anti-American rhetoric!

He has been a staunch advocate of campaign finance reform, working with Senator Russ Feingold, among the most liberal of Democrats, on groundbreaking legislation, just as he worked with Senator Edward Kennedy on immigration reform.

Working with liberal politicians to limit our Constitutional rights to free speech and open the country to anyone… yeah, THAT’s a ringing endorsement for a Republican!
